Run On Sentences

A run on sentence is a sentence that has two clauses that can stand alone--independent clauses. These two indepedent clauses are connected incorrectly. A run on sentence has nothing to do with the length of a sentence.

Here is a short run on sentence:

The cow is big, we like big cows.

Here is a long grammatically correct sentence:

Although the course was very damp due to the onshore flow, Tiger took the same club that he hit the previous day when he stuck his approach shot and made birdie, but he hit the ball with a lower trajectory which allowed the ball to skip up the green and give him a good chance of making another birdie.

This module will teach you how to combine two independent clauses correctly.

Independent Clauses

An independent clause is a clause that can stand on its own as a complete sentence. This is an independent clause.

Dependent Clause

A dependent clause is a clause that CANNOT stand on its own. A dependent clause not connected to an independent clause is called a FRAGMENT.
